Catarina Carvalho

Catarina L. Carvalho holds a PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Social Psychology, as well as a master’s degree in Social Psychology, a postgraduate degree in Humanitarian Action, Cooperation, and Development, and a (pre-Bologna) degree in Social Education. Her research primarily focuses on civic and political participation, social movements, collective action versus social apathy, reactions to deviance in intergroup contexts, and the psychological mechanisms underlying support for social hierarchy and inequality. Currently, her work also explores adherence to nationalism and populism, discrimination against immigrants, and the psychological processes driving online misconduct, such as hate speech. Catarina has been involved in numerous national and international research projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to address pressing social challenges.
