Jorge Gato

Jorge Gato, Ph.D., is a researcher who specializes in the intersection of clinical and social psychology. His research focuses on the impact of discrimination on the well-being of socially vulnerable groups, such as LGBTQIA+ individuals and migrants. He is particularly interested in developing and evaluating individual, family, and community-based psychological interventions for these populations. In addition to his research, he is a licensed psychotherapist and family therapist. He is currently serving as the President-Elect of the European Society on Family Relations. He is a member of the coordinating team of the Observatory of Social Challenges (CPUP/FPCEUP) and a member of the technical-scientific group of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality. He is convinced that psychology has a fundamental role to play in building a fairer society, actively participating in the defense of the human rights of LGBTQIA+ people.
